The primary service of A.S. Altum & Associates is to provide irrigation design and on-site consulting as well as close contact and review of the contractor and project. We are your premier golf course irrigation consultant.
We’re involved in all phases of golf course and commercial irrigation design including feasibility studies, preliminary designs, final designs, bidding and selection, construction management, computer programming, GPS as-builts, final topography maps, and aerial imagery through drone technology. Providing cost effective, efficient irrigation for golf courses with particular attention to turf needs is our goal.
With over 500 turf-conscientious irrigation designs through the U.S. and abroad, A.S. Altum & Associates is considered a definite resource in the industry. A.S. Altum & Associates has had the opportunity to work on a substantial number of private clubs (13 of the Top 100), resorts, government projects, city and municipal golf courses, and golf courses located on various bases for the armed forces. We’ve collaborated in the irrigation design of new and existing golf courses with golf course architects such as Robert Trent Jones II, Pete Dye, Tim Liddy, Arthur Hills, Gil Hanse, Steve Smyers, Tiger Woods Design, Nicklaus Design, Rees Jones, Beau Welling, and others.
Since 1990, A.S. Altum & Associates has built a reputation in the golfing community as one of the world’s most trusted leaders in irrigation design and consulting. Founder and President, Tony Altum, has assembled an expert staff of Irrigation Association certified professionals, design technicians, and administrators and his one-to-one client contact on every project ensures exceptional results.

Tony has designed courses throughout the international golf community with courses completed in Aruba, Barbados, Puerto Rico, Australia, England, Germany, Holland, Austria, Italy, Columbia, UAE (Dubai) and Spain. The office also specializes in renovation projects for existing country clubs and golf courses and have completed or are under design on projects for numerous top clubs such as The Camargo Club, Bay Hill, Oakland Hills, Scioto Country Club, Canterbury Golf Club, Bellerive, Olympia Fields, and Point O’Woods. Tony was also recruited to consult on the restoration of the Eisenhower Green at the White House for the 100-year anniversary of the USGA.
Tony received a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing with an Irrigation Minor from Purdue University in 1980. He spent 10 years as Irrigation Manager at Kenny Machinery Corporation and founded A.S. Altum & Associates in 1990. Tony is Irrigation Association Level III Certified in both golf course and commercial irrigation design. He has been a speaker at OTF, MRTF, Illinois Park District Show, PGA, and Central Illinois Superintendent Association Annual Meeting. Tony is an active member of ASGCA, American Society of Golf Course Architects and Irrigation Association.
